LAN has actively engaged pastoralist communities in environmental matters arising from large-scale extractive development projects, which have a high impact on the local environment. For instance, the LAPSSET project, geothermal, wind power, and oil and gas development.
To protect the environment, close monitoring of shallow water wells has been at the center of our focus. This heightened concern is due to reported cases of animal deaths downstream along the belt with extractive activities. One main strategy involved advocating for water safety in Turkana County through the issuance of observation letters circulated to the public. This approach garnered the attention of key stakeholders, prompting water sample testing.
